I have to admit Ryan O'Neal did a good job on that film, given (sorry) what I feel was a weak screenplay and (again, sorry) Ali's basically inept performance. I think a better actress would have made me care about whether that character lived or died.
Ryan has some lovely subtle moments, particularly when the couple is visiting his parents for the first time. She worries about making a good impression, clothes-wise. We then see him gently and protectively brushing off a bit of lint from the back of her jacket. I actually remember Brando doing this similiar gesture with Kim Hunter in STREETCAR. I'd like to think O'Neal remembered it too.
As you know, I recently saw BRANNIGAN on ScreenPix (their idea of a St. Patrick's Day offering, lol) Now I see it is on the TCM schedule tomorrow, Saturday, March 23rd at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

You can add BRANNIGAN to your list, CI. ScreenPix generously ran this on St. Patrick's Day and I laughed throughout. Wonderfully cheesy late-Duke vehicle has him as an Irish-American Chicago cop in London trying to extradite crime boss John Vernon back to the States. We are supposed to think Wayne's culture clashes with the Brits are oh so amusing, particularly Richard Attenborough who works for Scotland Yard. They are not.

Detective Jim will solve that one quicker than me!
Me too. That's why he's a detective and I'm still walking a beat. So far the
closest I've came is Tom Hanks and Roger Corman were both in Philadelphia
and Corman directed The Raven with Boris Karloff, who was in a number
of pictures with Lugosi. It's hard to find a one to one connection where one actor
was both in a Tom Hanks movie and a Bela Lugosi movie. Hmmm.

Well, I HAVE heard that Tom Hanks' favorite bad movie is 'Plan 9 from Outer Space', and so IF this sort'a thing is allowed in this game, then...
BUT, and if it isn't allowed, then isn't it a shame Dudley Manlove quit the biz in '62 and so many years before he could have guested on 'Bosom Buddies'?!
(...btw Andree...I thought you had been retired from the force for many years now, and so what's with that whole "still walkin' a beat" thing here, HUH???)

And if only Tor Johnson had lived longer. It's in my nightmares. I was climbing right
up the career ladder when I got involved in an incident in Chinatown. A cop named
Friday was selling pot, weed, mary jane, ganja, reefer, funny cigs. Never got caught.
He was promoted and I got a one way ticket to Vacaville. Dumb da dumb dumb.

So, in this case, the names were NOT changed to protect the innocent.
I can't get a break from this Friday guy. No respect, no respect at all, let me tell ya.
OMG. Just about every night I feel that hammer coming down and hitting me right
in the forehead. OUCH!
I remember a contemporary review of Brannigan making fun of Dukey's old
gnarled hands, implying that he was a bit long in the tooth for the role. I saw
it once a long time ago and will probably watch it tonight. They don't show
many John Wayne comedies.

Hey, good going, Andree!
This just popped into my head: Bela Lugosi and Gypsy Rose Lee.

Andree, I found a Bela Lugosi connection with Tom Hanks, but will wait first on you!
I was mostly joking when I first posted that, but I'll take a look, though I have
to admit it's not a top of the list thing. Yes, some of the connections are rather
tenuous, but they still are connections. I have to wonder: Bela Lugois~Kevin Bacon.
Dargo, terrific addition with your Tom Hanks/PLAN 9 Bela connection!! Had no idea it's his favorite bad movie. I do remember him saying he thinks ATLANTIS, THE LOST CONTINENT, is one of the greatest films ever made, right up there with CITIZEN KANE. I am almost inclined to agree, lol.
