Richard Sherman, one half of the Sherman Brothers songwriting team, has passed away at the age of 95. He and his brother are best remembered for writing songs for Disney films, television, and theme park attractions.

So, I assume that last little factoid's numbers would be heavily weighted by the millions upon millions of people who took that damn overly-cute amusement ride, and who THEN unable to get that freakin' earworm out of their heads, started singing it out loud to everyone's great displeasure within earshot, right?!

It's based on the fact that it's on endless loop in the attraction, and the attraction has been running almost continuously since 1964, at the World's Fair That Wasn't a World's Fair in NYC. There was a gap between the end of the fair and its installation in Anaheim. And there are copies of it running in Orlando (since 1971), Tokyo (since 1983), Paris (1992) and Hong Kong (2008). Estimates are that it's been played over 50 million times.

I have to say it was played a fair number of times when I was a kid (I'm sure my parents were thrilled), as I had a record & book (record was a 7 inch 33 1/3 RPM) of the attraction.

Thanks. I really liked Paige in Bachelor in Paradise with Bob Hope, but she was good in a lot of roles. 101 - WOW!
