I totally agree, John...I much prefer Olivia in "The Snake Pit" and (dare I say it) "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte."

Olivia......

Hi,

Although I think that "The Heiress" is Olivia's finest performance, I do agree that "The Snakepit" and "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" are excellent too!

But, her Melanie is also a very fine and exquisite performance. Nobody played her sweetness & goodness so well that the audience wasn't turned off... That's very hard to do...
Kudos to Miss De Havilland!

Hi Ben,

How's Vegas? Are the Belagio fountains still flowing?

I may come down there to visit in late September or early October.
Let's get together with Lynn.

Stu
Here's another opinion.
I liked G W T W. I don't think it was the best that all these actor were in. Agreed the 'Snake Pit' for deHavilland.
I liked 'Mutiny on the Bounty' for Gable.
'Of Human Bondage' for Howard
'Next Time We Love' for McDaniel
'Ship of Fools' for Leigh.
'Cabin in the Sky' for McQueen and Anderson.
' 'The Grapes of Wrath' for Darwell
'Slightly Honorable' for Keyes
'Whistling in the Dark' for Rutherford
G W T W was Jory's best.
Yes, I liked G W T W .... mel

[quote="stuart.uk"] Joanna Whalley also played the role in the sequel Scarlett with Timothy Dalton.

Which was a travesty. Scarlett, I mean, both the book and movie. Talk about completely gratuitous sequels...

Yes the sequel, Scarlett, did the author bother to read or watch GWTW.

It was so stupid and so far from the original, but I did buy it at the time becAUse I loved GWTW. That was one that went to the junk shop.

I love Timothy Dalton but he's no Rhett Butler, James Bond yes, Rhett Butler no.

it's possible that Errol Flynn may have been 1st choice to play Rhett with Bette Davis as Scarlett. While Gable was totally right for the part, the only actor of the same generation who could have done Rhett was Flynn. Davis however, i think would have been lost as Scarlett.

in modern terms Patrick Swayze might have been a good Rhett with his North And South co-star Teri Garber as Scarlett
