Back in the 50s and 60s, "break-in" novelty recordings were
all the rage and BUCHANAN and GOODMAN were the acknowledged
kings of the genre. Here they are with their most famous one:
"The Flying Saucer" (parts 1 and 2) from 1956

Saw Charles Burnett’s incredible TO SLEEP WITH ANGER (1990)
once again last night. This is a tribute to his film by way of the artists whose
music he used.

Here are some choice examples from the film’s scintillating menu
of music…the greatest soundtrack NEVER released!

Announcing the arrival of my virgin embed links!

Ta-da!

Thought I'd kick off with a run of some shall we say orchestral rock - bringing us a little theme of poignant loss & revelation:
First off, a certain Mr. G.M. Sumner (his Mom called him Sting) weaves his magic with If I Ever Lose My Faith

Next, we're off to Asia, for Only Time Will Tell

And just in case anyone thinks I live fulltime in the past, let's wrap with this currently hot classic-to-be from Coldplay, Viva La Vida

Mike Stern - Little Shoes

80's Jazz with dreaded and dated Yamaha DX7, but when Mike kicks on the distortion and stars soloing, the whole tune comes to life.

Om Shanti, fellow Earthpeople. It's Friday and the City is really quiet.
Let's get mellow.

Slainte aggus tinte, DJ Dewey (that's Gaelic for to your health & wealth)!
I plan to be aboard for quite a while; if anybody needs to know, I'll be sequestered in the aft hold, inventorying all contraband, smuggled goods & loot!
Say, though, that Kid Creole can sure rock the house some, n'est ce pas?
He's inspired me to this following run of partying-down by falling back to one's roots; I'll be at a big Highland Festival for the next 2 days, and hope y'all do something that's equally down-home fine 'n fun!

Let's start the shindig with our old chum Little Stevie Winwood, all grown up here & urgin' us to Roll with It!

Next, let's cross the tracks & catch up with hometown hero John Mellencamp, who needs to warn us about Paper in Fire (stay in your seat for this one, I dare ya!):

Finally, Gary Allan wants to buy us all a Cuervo, and 'fess-up about The One:

(Boy Howdy, this guy gets the best lookin' women for his vids!)

The late 50s and early 60s brought a boatload of private eye
programs to the small screen. The Record Party plays host
right now to this swingin’ hit parade commemorating some of
these gumshoes…
BOB LUMAN “Private Eye”

The DON RALKE ORCH and the theme from 77 SUNSET STRIP

You won’t hear much in the way of musical accompaniment on this clip
From 77 SUNSET STRIP, but the patter emanating from Kookie
Byrnes
’ pipes is pure beat poetry…

Here’s KOOKIE again, this time with songbird CONNIE STEVENS
warbling their big hit “Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb”

Let’s welcome the incomparable SARAH VAUGHAN with her knock-out
vocal version of Mancini’s classic PETER GUNN theme! (a tip of the
Dewey Derby to DJ Klondike for turning me on to this one earlier
this year!)

Some hot music from a PETER GUNN episode called “Jazz and
Murder Smell The Same”

A brief taste of some tasty music from John Cassavetes’ brilliant but
short-lived 1959 private eye show JOHNNY STACCATO

A quick make-good here:

For all you surfin' tune-lovers who got the door slammed on you in my last embed (Gary Allan's Man of Me), my apologies, I had no idea YouTube was gonna go all stingey on us . . :?
But hey, I've replaced it with a different deep-textured goodie from soulful GA; if ya got a minute, jump back & check it out!

Great music from all you DJ's (I expect no less). This is still the best show in town.

You guys did a fine tribute to Isaac Hayes a little while back. Here's my belated tribute. Sadly, not the full ten minute version.

Isaac Hayes - By The Time I Get To Phoenix

Arranged and Conducted by Jim Webb. Another excellent 5th Dimension song.

The 5th Dimension - Carpet Man

Some superb Frankie Valli (minus the Four Seasons).
Frankie Valli - You're ready now

This guy never fails to bring the house down.

Barrence Whitfield - Bloody Mary
