DEWEY'S RECORD PARTY!
This weekend was the heaviest rainfall in Chicago since records started
being kept in 1871. The front page of the Tribune had a couple of
guys in a row boat looking for stranded neighbors – in the neighborhood
immediately northeast of ours, about two miles away. We were lucky.
For our friends in Texas, may your SPIRIT be strong.

Nice tribute to Pink Floyd and Richard Wright. The last Pink Floyd album I bought was ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’, after that they lost their appeal for me. I much preferred them in their Syd Barrett days.
Here are two other bands that drastically changed direction after the departure of very significant (some would say monopolistic) band members.
Some ‘Dirty Mac’ from the Peter Green era
Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well

Genesis - The Musical Box

I suppose when Bob Dylan went ‘Electric’ could be considered a change of direction, but that’s debatable.
It must be written in the ‘Classic Rock Radio’ charter somewhere that anything by Bob Dylan subsequent to ‘Blood On The Tracks’ must not be played. Anyway, to hell with them. My favorite Bob Dylan album (if I were pushed to choose just one) is ‘Infidels’.

Here she comes now with a sampling of some of her favorite
Motown tunes…
She has only one question for the congregation, courtesy of Marvin Gaye…
“Can I Get A Witness?”

Sockin’ it to the folks with this floor-shakin’ cover of The Temptations’

Speaking of Martha Reeves, here now are Dusty and Martha working

I'v been experiencing one of my auditory loops today, and I'd like to share it with you.
First, here's the "straight" version of the song I've been playing in my head. Ray Kinney was a Hawaiian bandleader who brought his sound to the mainland in the 1930 and 40s. His band popularized the sound of the Hawaiian guitar, and introduced traditional Hawaiian music to the rest of America. Here's his biggest hit:
Hawaiian War Chant

And here's the "other" version, the one that's been with me all day, from Spike Jones and His Wacky Waikikians [Ay-YAH Ay-YAH!]

It's here, it's here!
Me favorite time of the whole blessed year, och aye!
The New Hampshire Highland Games !!!
Where, for 3 whole days, upward of 50,000 tourists flock to New England's loveliest ski resort to witness nearly a thousand of us tartaned Scots parade, dance, drink, pipe, cavort, recite oral histories, drink, man clan tents, attend concerts, share jokes, attend whisky tastings, haggle vendors, drink, tell tales, toss cabers/hammers/shotputs & sheafs, flirt, harass rival clansmen, march, drink, & party-party-party-party!
Besides the bagpipe marching bands (only nine this year), there'll be 17 different musical acts performing on 5 different stages around the grounds; here's an example of one of the most popular:
From Ardbeg, Scotland - Albannach!

[Please forgive all the audience sub-noise on this one: we Celts tend to get really loud when we party-doon! ]

Erasing Mamie Van Doren From My Brain
I'm feeling a need to erase the memory of that hideous Mamie Van Doren video (and the sound of her VOICE ... reverberating in my head) with some classier fare, Godard-style. I've never seen the movie (Band Of Outsiders) but can't stop watching this clip ... it's too cool!
