Cry the Beloved Country (1995)

Anyone checking this version out tonight? I loved the original 1951 film with Canada Lee and Sidney Poitier and am not sure it could be improved upon. Seeing the TCM promos got me interested however, and I'd be curious to hear from people who've seen both films.
