Ken, your choices would be mine, and I might add Support Your Local Sheriff and The Sheep Man.

I love the line in "Sheriff" when during the mud fight Hackett says to Garner "Do you want to grab something?" And he replies "Everything looks to slippery."

I mentioned it "over there" - Who would have that Jack Elam could be funny?

Jack Elam is hilarious in Support Your Local Sheriff. It's one of his shining moments in films.

Doesn't Walter Brennan's character remind you of a send-up of his menacing Pa Clanton in My Darling Clementine?

Absolutely, right down to the brothers. Bruce Dern could be an idiot version of Ike Clanton. How many comedies actually have a killing in them? A few but not many.

Seeing Garner sitting out on the porch of the Sheriff's office with his foot on the rail also reminds of Fonda and the post in "Clementine."

Elam also proved fishing with dynamite icreases your odds of getting lunch.

I never thought about it before, but you're right! I'm surprised it didn't catch on as a new past-time.

Both of my favorites have already been mentioned, but both are worth repeating:
Support Your Local Sheriff I love Garner in just about anything, but this is the type of role he perfected in Maverick and can do as well as anyone.

Destry Rides Again Ditto for Jimmy. He is outstanding in everything, even when the rest of the movie isn't. I wish he'd have played the character of Destry again, he was wonderful.

The only bad movie is no movie at all.

I caught Destry Rides Again just this morning, and put my thoughts in it's own thread, under Westerns. How many agree, disagree?

I have to agree with Jon: The Terror of Tiny Town, a musical western starring little people.

Really close runner up: Support Your Local Sheriff and The Skin Game.

I feel silly I forgot about THE PALEFACE! What a hilarious movie. Bob would break me up with his jokes about never getting an Oscar (Oscar night was called "Passover" at his house, et al.) but he still remains the most honored entertainer in history, so I guess he was more than compensated.

Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter are both on TCM Jan 25 at 9:45 pm ET.

A chance to see the late Ms. Pleshette in the latter.
