MGM Greatest Moments

Post by Garbomaniac »

Years ago I purchased a VHS called MGM Greatest Moments which included many of the musicals, dramas, and comedies. But one section was devoted to MGM's love of classic literature such as David Copperfield, The Pride and the Prejudice, Goodbye Mr. Chips, A Tale of Two Cities, Little Women, The Good Earth, etc. Roddy McDowell hosted it, and it was basically a sales pitch to intice viewers into buying the collection. Does anyone know what I am talking about? It is a wonderful photoplay of all the great MGM films. Sometimes I just sit and watch that instead of a movie.

I've never seen that particular video, but I love those "That's Entertainment" specials, especially the first one. Seeignn those as a kid was probably my first exposure to classic movies.

I haven't seen that one either but I did find one the other day called "100 Years of the Movies Most Passionate Kisses" which of course grabbed my attention immediately. Classic screen kisses are my forte. I live and die for them. The video is hosted by Lauren Bacall. I've yet to watch it but it's issued by TBS Home Entertainment so I strongly assume because it's Turner, that it's primarily hot and steamy scenes from M-G-M and Warners films ...

Issued in 1992 ... I hope my TV doesn't melt when I play it ...
I absolutely adore movies. Even bad ones. I don't like pretentious ones, but a good bad movie, you must admit, is great. ~ Roddy McDowell

^ Wow. You think you know a person, and then they totally surprise you.

A *romantic*! :P

But then, who am I to talk, Valentino Groupie Extraordinaire....

Anyway, sounds like an interesting video. I didn't even know it existed, but I'd be interested in what they had to say.

What does Lauren Bacall do? Rate them?

Oh Hello ...

Yes, I'm a definately a romantic as if you really didn't suspect that hehe ...

The screen kiss is the ultimate moment in romantic movies for me OMG ...

le pinnicle de climix mélodramatique glorifié dans les cinema my dear. They leave me utterly breathless. They made me wiggle in my seat when I was ten and still do. Oh yes, the ravishing kiss can change the entire direction of a film or end a film gloriously. And I love soft focus and romantic music ...

Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman ...
Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland ...
Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn ...
Joel McCrea and Jean Arthur ...
Rudolph Valentino and Vilma Banky ...
Gene Raymond and Nancy Carroll ...
Franchot Tone and Joan Crawford ...
John Gilbert and Greta Garbo ...
Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne ...
Victor Varconi and Corinne Griffith ...

Need I continue ?

I haven't watched the video yet. Still shrinkwrapped. Cost me a dollar ...
