Night and the City Widmark or De Niro
Night and the City Widmark or De Niro
IMHO the Julues Dassin directed version stsarring Richard Widmark, Gene Tierney, and Herbert Lom is 100 times better than the De Niro version.

You are absolutely correct.
If you are talking about Night and The City.

I, too agree completely. Although DeNiro is quite a fine actor, I, for one am more than happy to see him discard his gangster like aura, and try a few comedies. Back in the early 90's I saw a movie with him and Jane Fonda (Stanley and Iris), about a guy who couldn't read, and she ended up teaching him, and of course they fell in love. At the time, I wondered why he didn't do more love stories. Unfortunately, unlike Pierce Brosnan and Richard Gere, DeNiro did not age as gracefully. But he seems to do well as a dad to teens or even older, I hope he keeps that going.

Here's another vote for the original "Night and the City." Widmark and Lom are terrific, but let's not forget Francis Sullivan, who plays an unlikeable guy destroyed because he gets involved in Widmark's schemes. Sullivan gets to say the movie's signature line, "You're a dead man, Harry Fabian."

They remade it?
Why? It's perfect as is. I mean the Dassin version of course.
