*CANDIDS*

Hi Judith:
Good questions of course! The tins are not necessary because you would put the cups, and thus the water, directly into the large pan. I can imagine the need for the covers though. A good custard has to be covered during half of the baking time. Oh me, oh my, what a world, what a world!!!
I have to stick with vanilla/egg custard, because anytime I try to get any fancier, I end up crying in my soup!
I don't know about you, but I rarely think of comedians as good looking, or attractive. For instance, Leslie NIelsen was definitely handsome when he was younger and playing straight roles, but something happens when a guy turns to comedy, and he loses a lot of that sex appeal, and Steve Martin is another one.

Re: *CANDIDS*
I love Rudy Vallee. For just one year, I would love for TCM to show Rudy Vallee movies all day instead of Joe E. Brown.
Re: *CANDIDS*
What a great pic of sexy Miriam. Hard to believe that within ten years she'd become a rather drippy sort. Such was the effect of the Code on so many, at least in terms of how they were perceived.mongoII wrote: Fredric March and Miriam Hopkins discussing the script with director Rouben Mamoulian on the set of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"
Late as usual, but I also adore that pic of Marie making custard or whatever. Love that look on her face. One more that we lost far too soon. (This week I've been enjoying films starring another one taken too young, the gloriously flighty Alice Brady.)
Re: *CANDIDS*
I think he can be funny, but I think most of the movies he was in were not particularly funny. He was an actor (and acrobat), not necessarily a comedian. Besides Some Like it Hot, I love him to pieces as Cap'n Andy in the third version of Show Boat.rudyfan wrote:Not even in Some Like it Hot?ken123 wrote:IMHO Joe E. Brown NOT Funny!
And, by the way, Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies has been on too many times this month on one of the movie channels, and I am of the opinion that Tony Curtis' brash 1920s wiseguy was imitating Brown in Brown's 1930s movies. Zow-wee!

He was not very good in this pic either IMHO.rudyfan wrote:Not even in Some Like it Hot?ken123 wrote:IMHO Joe E. Brown NOT Funny!
Re: *CANDIDS*
I'd say that Joe E. Brown did OK with the material that Warner Bros. gave him. I'm enjoying his slapstick antics today on TCM.
Judith, I too thought his performance in "Show Boat" was wonderful.

Judith:
I agree that Mr. Brown was given very poor material to work with, but IMHO he does nothing to enhance the material given him.
