Joan Crawford with director Robert Aldrich

Joan Crawford was the original choice to co-star with Bette Davis in "Hush, Hush...Sweet Charlotte". After she became 'ill' she was replaced by Olivia de Havilland. Here are a few scenes that were filmed with Miss Crawford before production came to a halt.

Wow! Joe, thanks for posting these great images. I've never seen these before. I love this movie and as much as I love De Havilland in it, I think Joan could have done the icy sweetness so incredibly well.

Judith, are you sure Lita Baron's not related to you?

Not sure -- who knows. It would be cool, only Baron isn't her real name, it's Castro. But maybe the choice of name means there's some long-lost connection there somewhere in my heavily cross-pollinated family.

It's a nice photo, anyway.

Wow! Noah Beery is one of the best looking character actors there was. I love his gentle drawl.

And I adore Oskar Homolka beyond any reasoning. From his heartbreaking role in Sabotage, to Ball of Fire, to Mr. Sardonicus, and Funeral in Berlin, Skal, Uncle Chris.

"To really enjoy the better things in life, one must have first experienced the things they are better than."

"In Europe I played Othello, but in American pictures. . . . I am just the mean fellow who leers at the little heroine and dies hideously in the end."
