You can add Harry Karl to that ring in hell...
He left Debbie Reynolds with some bills marked "Due".....

At least Dick Haymes was a good singer; the other two only had negative qualities...

What did Dick Haymes do? I had him marked as a singer but just looked him up on the imdb and have seen that he married with regularity to actresses including Rita Hayworth and Joanne Dru, he must have had some charisma.
Even more powerful: he had the voice. He was a Pied Piper to women as well as to the popular singing quintet.

Dick Haymes had a beautiful voice, but he also was an alcoholic.

I think the gossip is that he was a controlling person who tried to take over Rita Hayworth's career and may have hit her. Though Rita generally married men who were somewhat controlling, I think there is some question as to the veracity of the abuse allegations. There is one incident of a heated battle that did take place in public.... Haymes himself admitted to it, but says he did not hit her. He stated that he did hit Rita once, when they were both in an inebriated state, and that ended their marriage. When she was drinking heavily, Rita was known to be violent as well. She had undergone childhood traumas which came out when she was drinking, I think. Three biographies of Rita state that Haymes was a control "freak" and an abuser, but none of them have sources. I think that the rumors were originally started by Confidential magazine, and none of these claims can be substantiated by actual sources. One biography did give a source for the abuse allegations - they said that they were from June Allyson's biography. In June Allyson's biography, no sources are given for the allegations. So basically, there is no knowing the truth of the matter.

I love that photo of Bette Davis, it's rare to see one of her where she is so relaxed and sans make-up and dressed hair, but she still looks great.

John Carradine looks three sheets to the wind (I think that's the expression) -- the usual state of affairs with him. What a voice that man had!

Harry Davenport . . how often have we seen him, or his compatriot Will Wright, walk into a scene, and effortlessly turn-around an otherwise too-slow movie ?!!
