Speculation T. Cornpone: It's almost our last chance to dream about screenings for the TCMFF 2016. Passes have been arriving in the mail for a few days, and anxious passholders keep hoping for more updates. I also cannot wait to read about all the panels and interviews scheduled for Club TCM.
We might see interviews with Francis Ford Coppola, Gina Lollobrigida, Carl Reiner, Elliot Gould, and many more special guests who have yet to be announced.
Burt Reynolds will be the subject for the celebrity interview at the Montalban Theatre, which will be screened later on TCM.
Here are some collected comments from friends who still have a 'fest wish list' before the final schedule magically appears on the TCM Film Festival 2016 website:
Joanne Woodward introducing any of her films like "The Long, Hot Summer," "The Three Faces of Eve," or "From The Terrace."
(Woodward has reportedly been ill, but we would all love to see her.)
Mamie Van Doren, "Teacher's Pet."
Ellyn Burstyn, and/or Jeff Bridges and/or Cybill Shepherd and/or Timothy Bottoms and/or Cloris Leachman, "The Last Picture Show."
Natasha Gregson Wagner introducing "Gypsy" or any of her mother's, Natalie Woods,' wonderful films.
Sissy Spacek and/or Tommy Lee Jones, "Coal Miner's Daughter"
Dina Merrill, "Butterfield 8" or maybe "The Sundowners." (She would be 93.)
Diane Baker, "The Best of Everything."
Sue Lyon, "Night of the Iguana."
Stephanie Powers introducing William Holden's "Dear Ruth."
Doris Day introducing any of her films.( She would be 94.)
Clint Eastwood and "Hang 'em High."
Burt Reynolds and Candace Bergen, "Starting Over."
John Ford's early silent, "Fig Leaves."
Ingrid Bergman's daughters (Ingrid, Pia, Isabella) introducing the documentary "Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words."
Christa Fuller introducing Sam Fuller's "Pickup on South Street," or the recent Fuller documentary.
Rita Moreno and "The King and I."
Ben Mankiewicz introducing "A Letter to Three Wives."
Illeana Douglas introducing more of her grandfather's fabulous films. (The wonderful Melvyn Douglas!)
It would also be fun if Alan Arkin returned to join the introduction of "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming."
And my annual request, Joan Collins and "The Opposite Sex." (It was screened in October with Collins and Robert Osborne discussing Collins' career and experiences. Thank you, Mr. Tabesh, it was ten times of fabulous.)
Of course most pass holders I've spoken with or connected with on social media want Sylvester Stallone and/or Burt Young and/or Talia Shire to introduce "Rocky," and Robert Redford and/or Dustin Hoffman and/or Jane Alexander and/or Bob Woodward and/or Carl Bernstein to introduce "All The President's Men." The stage would be packed, and I'm sure the theater would be!
What do you want to see this year?
