Oh gosh, watch out for those dry trees, guys! We had a lot of large cracking branches this spring, and I have to tell you it was pretty scary hearing them fall, not quite knowing where the sound was coming from.

Here in CT. the trees stand up pretty well to drought, but as soon as the rain comes back through, that's when they up and die. It's so odd, they live through the worst of it but then drown or something once the water hits them. I don't remember it being like that in the midwest.

even the pine trees are brown and dead. really sad to see all the trees drying up. It's only 72 right now, wish this was the high for the day..but at 9:11am, I doubt it.

72's not bad for 9 am, last week it was between 79 and 82 here by 9!

That is so sad about the trees, Nan. I hate seeing the brown all over the place, especially in big pines that seem like they have been around forever.

Emerald (Seattle) City ... No Rain in the month of August

I had 40 straight days of no rain and the record is 51 days straight. So, our extended forecast for the next 10 days looks like our record of 51 days straight is threatening. I never seen a dry spell like this one in my lifetime and the last time we had 51 days without rain here is back in 1951.

It's crazy here ...

Rain! Blessed, soaking rain! It started yesterday around 11am, continued all thru the night, finally cleared off about noon today. We are not out of trouble, but it is a wonderful way to start the month.

I am so glad you finally got some rain, knitty! I hope there is more in the forecast, some each week, and preferably overnight. Maybe you can send some up to the northwest!

Well...Looks like a big storm is brewing here in Kentucky. It got dark and windy all of a sudden. I stepped outside of the office to look around, realized I was standing right under a power line. Probably not a good place to be!

According to my latest forecast Emerald (Seattle) City will break it's record of 51 days without rain ... they say that we could ended up with 62-65 days without rain ... more than two whole months ... this is unheard of in my hometown!

Oh, well it's finally rained today ... so our record this year is 48 days ... 3 days shy of our record back in 51.

In Washington State we had a major forest fire in Central Washington this past 15 days and finally contained ... resulting a major haze that came through Seattle/Tacoma Area today and our air quality was very poor today because of the ashes was drifted westwards.

My sister in law took this (from her workplace) photo today and because of that its created an unusual effects on our Sun this morning (this is a sunrise photo) that was taken one hour after the sun was came up. Its created an ORANGE AURA around our Sun and this is one of the strangest photos that she ever took in her life.

Saturday was a nice sunny day here in New York City. So I drove out with a friend along Brooklyn's Belt Parkway to Sheepshead Bay for some seafood and sunset:
