Woke up feeling kinda anxious today in a sorta Beetlejuice way, if you know what I mean -
so I'm tappin' into the energy of a gal who, to me, is the ultimate torch-singing pin-up girl of the 21st Century - the languid siren who stars in about half of my bad-boy dreams (I divide the other half between Ava Gardner & Eva Mendez), a stunning face with an Olympian voice . .

I used to listen to that 45 of Topsy, Part II when I was seven years old!
I remember playing it on my little record player, and being scared to
death by it (something sinister about the voice at the very beginning?
Is it Cozy Cole's voice?)
I'd scare myself with it and then play it again.

This got me to thinking about other 45's I collected at a ridiculously
young age, and played over and over in my bedroom (long after I
was supposed to be asleep) in North Hollywood in the late 1950's ...

including:

Bird Dog - The Everly Brothers

Silhouettes - The Rays

Mack the Knife - Bobby Darren

Jamaica Farewell - Harry Belafonte

Yakety Yak - The Coasters

Purple People Eater - Sheb Wooley
(stunningly bad video and audio!)

And last but not least ...
Santa And The Satellite - Buchanan & Goodman
... which contains the classic line:
"This is John Cameron Cameron, Downtown Sputnik ..."

Our older daughter has organized a team to walk 50 miles this weekend
to raise funds to find a cure for MS, a disease affecting her and thousands
of others. Here is a little musical salute to everyone with MS, those
supporting the fundraising effort and a prayer for everyone’s continued
strength.

And in honor of Paul Newman here's the great Maxine Nightingale
song "Right Back Where We Started From" - featured on the soundtrack of Slapshot ...
one of my all-time favorite Paul Newman movies that nobody, as far as I can tell, has mentioned
in any of the tributes to him since his untimely death on Friday.
RIP Paul - you were the best.
