I've downloaded a bunch of musical theater CDs to my phone.

The Sound of Music (original Broadway cast)

I'm not a huge fan of The Sound of Music (the movie). I love the original Broadway cast recording with Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel (for whom "Edelweiss" was written), with opera singer Patricia Neway singing "Climb Every Mountain. Great cast, great score.

Fiorello (original Broadway cast)

One of Bock/Harnick's great scores, five years before Fiddler. Won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Tied with The Sound of Music for Best Musical Tony. Here's a song from the show which is still timely.

Wonderful Town
(2003 revival cast). Great score by Bernstein/Comden/Green. Donna Murphy, though pleasant as Ruth Sherwood, is no Rosalind Russell. The great bonus extra of this CD is Betty Camden and Adolph Green singing "The Wrong Note Rag."

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying Great Frank Loesser score. Lots of extras on the CD, including interesting commentary by Robert Morse and Charles Nelson Reilly, both of whom won Tony Awards.

Two flops with pleasant scores:

Flahooley -- Fain/Harburg score with one really good song: "Here's to Your Illusions," sung by Barbara Cook in her Broadway premiere. Interesting cast also included Yam Sumac, Irwin Corey, Ernest Truex, Bill Baird and his Marionettes, Cora Baird, Louis Nye, and Edith Atwater.

All American -- Strouse/Adams; Includes perhaps the best love song for old folks, (better even than "I Remember It Well" and "Hello Young Lovers"): "Once Upon a Time," sung by Ray Bolger and Eileen Herlie:

Listening to some of my weirder music today. This is one of my all-time favorite Vaporwave tunes.
