hey all you music lovers! I just found the PERFECT gift for our fearless leader/dj, Dewey, from the pages of the Christmas book of Neiman Marcus:
"THIRTY-FIVE YEAR COLLECTION OF 45 RPM RECORDS In this age of souless digital downloads and MP3 mumbo-jumbo, we gleefully turn to that treasured icon of our American pop culture childhood: the 45 RPM VINYL SINGLE. And since we're in the once-in-a-lifetime business, we giddily present our exclusive, definitive collection. To be clear, it contains each and every 45 RPM vinyl record that was listed on the Billboard Top 100 Rock and Pop charts from Jan. 1, 1955, through Dec. 31, 1990. Absolutely every disc for 35 years, every #100 up to every #1. There are some 18,400 records total. some are even autographed. How about the Beatles' 1964 hit "Ain't She Sweet" with picture sleeve, worth a cool $500.00; or the Beach Boys' 1961 hit, "Surfin' Luau" worth $200.00. There are literally hundreds of extremely collectible 45s - Elvis, Joplin, Hendrix, you name it - and the collection in its entirety is priceless. Ditch your bike in the front yard , run inside and dial up 1.877.9NM.GIFT already!
hey, it's only $275,000.00......but it does NOT include delivery. Maybe SueSue could swing over and pick it up??? I will be taking contributions starting Monday, October 13.

Well, OK, Nance . . you know best, I guess . .
I still say he'd get a real kick out of partnering with Amy Winehouse at Astronaut Camp . .
But I'll admit . . Dewey's one hard dude to buy for! :?

Finally!

Presented here on TRP for the first time is drummer Bill Bruford's time masterpiece Hells Bells with a KILLER solo from underground legend Allan Holdsworth. Holdsworth's mammoth tone and scalar ideas came from being inspired by Jazz icon John Coltrane and he puts both to great use here. Also included is the title track One of a Kind Pt.1. Enjoy:

Hey my not forgotten friend,

Thanks for the Jackson Browne and Sandy Denny spots, you're the best. But the beat goes on. Sitting here after unsuccessfully dealing with another major round of insomnia, a song is running (or rather at this stage, crawling) through my head by the Bee Gees. I don't know the full and correct title, but it deals with a mining disaster in NYC circa 1912, and asks "Have you seen my wife, Mr Jones?" Help me get it out of my head by finally being able to listen to it!! Keep up the consistently excellent work and I'll talk to you on the flip side!

As always,

Hollis

p.s. Thanks especially for the Allman Brothers clip, you knew I lived in Georgia after "the War" from 72 thru 74 now didn't you?

And may I add:

Ernie Ford, with "Sixteen Tons"
[Know why Cousin Ernie looks so happy, even though he's singing about working so hard in the coal mine? 'Cause he made a gazillion dollars off this song.]

Big Bad John

Dear Mook,

If that's a recent photo, you would appear to be wise beyond your years, then again, you're in San Fran and that would certainly help explain your wisdom! All my best!

Hey, Lisa and everyone else, am I hallucinating, or do you also remember a novelty song at about the time of Jimmy Dean's "Big Bad John" called "Small Sad Sam," or something like it?
