the film offers the richer, more emotionally fulfilling experience.
That's pretty much my feeling too. I liked the book. But the movie, one of the team's better efforts, is so quietly sensitive it's personal. The very lack of emotion is dramatic. This is a mature, literate movie. I liked it more than I thought I would.
