We met with our architect at our house, such as it is, last night, and it smelled like tornado weather...which, all things considered (superfluous NPR plug), makes mere snowfall welcome.

We move back into our house approximately Sept. 1. Or, as Mrs. ChiO calmly explained to the general contractor, "We are moving back on August 26. It will be done." As a WASP, I'm flexible and understanding. Mrs. ChiO, as a Mediterranean...well...you know. If it's not done by August 26, I'll just head for the nearest bunker.

Whew! I'm glad to hear it. I've been thinking about you since I heard about the flooding. I don't think Kansas has actually been mentioned specifically, and not everything in the midwest is under water, but the news and weather channels only focus on certain places and Missouri was mentioned. And then with all the other news that's been going on, I guess we're lucky if they even mention the flooding.

There are a lot of areas involved further north, but it is moving south. I am about 40 miles south and west from the Mighty Mo.

Should we keep our fingers crossed that it doesn't come your way?

I think if it does, there will also be a large wooden boat with lots of animals and a fellow in a long bathrobe, sporting a long, long beard...

I should have been a bit more specific about my location...I meant inland.

Glad it's nice there Erik!

We had a beautiful morning. I was just about to go out for my walk when suddenly a big grey cloud zoomed in, covered the entire sky and it started to rain. Now it's still grey, but the sun is out... between 11 and 2 it's supposed to clear up completely. Welcome to Connecticut! Our weather here is so changeable we never make any plans without an alternate option.

I reverently believe that the Maker who made us all makes everything in New England but the weather. I don't know who makes that, but I think it must be raw apprentices in the weather-clerk's factory who experiment and learn how, in New England, for board and clothes, and then are promoted to make weather for countries that require a good article, and will take their custom elsewhere if they don't get it.
- "The Weather" speech, 1876
Mark Twain

I think he knew what he was talking about! Replace all the references to New England, drop in your area, and it still fits.

It's been the coldest spring I can remember in Kentucky. Granted, I lived in Chicago for a long time. That doesn't count! I hope Donald Meek is not affected by the flooding in the midwest. "Kansas City, Kansas, brother!"
