Re: *CANDIDS*
Slainte to Roscoe Karns, the ageless, casually-calculating wisenheimer that has cajoled us through the mid-runs of so many cherished films.
Whether he's caressing a pinball game in a roadside diner, bluffing Frankie Jenks over cribbage, harassing Claudette Colbert on a bus ride or shmoozing George Tobias out of a smoke, Roscoe never failed to earn his cabbage.
And that voice! Small wonder that Louella once opined his were the only tones "unique" enought to command Pete Smith's attention.

Love the cast pictures both of The Quiet Man and A Streetcar Named Desire. Vivien and Marlon are two of the handsomest people to appear on film IMHO.
Failure is unimportant. It takes courage to make a fool of yourself - Charlie Chaplin

Re: *CANDIDS*
Jack, I liked Frank Cady in "The Bad Seed" as drowning victim Claude Daigle's bereaved father.
He gave a reserved performance.

Oh, you're right! I almost forgot him in that movie, since there were so many fascinating performances.....he was wonderful, very understated. He is sort of like the voice of my childhood....3 TV shows, same character. As a tiny kid, I'd always wait to see him as Sam Drucker.

Dead on, JF; I just spotted him (all over again) as the line-up identifier in the beginning of The Asphalt Jungle; barely a minute on-screen, not even a dozen words before he ducks into his fedora and slips nervously away . . yet Cady plays that single, narrow scene with such swift, minute precision that you know he's declining the i.d. session out of the fear he feels just from looking at the silent, smoldering hostility on arrestee Sterling Hayden's face.JackFavell wrote:I almost forgot him in that movie, since there were so many fascinating performances.....he was wonderful, very understated.
