Faboo five-fer, DJ-ChiO!! Let's pull out another staple of Latin rock:
LAND OF 1000 DANCES!! (although it was first made popular by the
great Chris Kenner; sorry, no vid) but immortalized by the afore-
mentioned Latino superstars...

No Chris Kenner?!?! Where's the justice in this world? But we do have the
arch-rival of Cannibal & the Headhunters as the kings of Chicano
Rock in L.A. with a version that was recorded earlier, but charted two weeks
later. Here’s…

Wow, thanks for that; looked for it but couldn't find it!
And to stave off any further disappointment, here's a pair
of other poundin' platters from CHRIS KENNER...

Did you see Sir Paul prancing around in front of the cameras at the ceremony for George Harrison's Hollywood Walk of Fame star? Can't he give the guy a break? First, he wouldn't play George's songs on Beatles albums, and now he acts like the star is his great honor. The headline and limelight grabbing Sir Paul ("It's all about me") McCartney is surely the Oprah of the music scene, and not in a good way. I couldn't find anything on YouTube for George's song "It's You That Decides," which is his ungrammatical explication of his relationship with Sir P. But then there's this one which seems to capture the McCartney ethic. When he's not actually making music, that McCartney really gets up my nose sometimes.

Well, I'm glad I got the above posting off my chest.

Now, on a much happier note, let's celebrate a significant birthday. When I was about 10 years old, my father took me to see Modern Times at some Greenwich Village arthouse. Here is the scene I remember best, and the song I still haven't stopped singing after all these decades (although my words are different, every time):

May I step in your Record Party, Dewey?

I want to post one of the most amazing moments I've witnessed in my life: Susan Boyle singing I dreamed a dream from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Les Misérables"

There was no way I could embed it, because it was disabled.

‘Nando: Thanks so much for putting Susan Boyle’s incredible
video up here at the Record Party! Mrs. Dewey and I watched it
earlier that day and were taken completely by surprise! It’s one
of the most remarkable performances of the year!!
Here now (in an altogether unrelated way) is a slab of 70s Motown
Monsters…

We love Power Pop in Chicago, especially when it’s homegrown. So,
in honor of this week’s International Pop Overthrow festival, named
after the greatest (with apologies to Big Star and Cheap Trick)
Power Pop record of all-time, by our hometown Material Issue, here are
some local Power Poppers.

The PEZBAND “It’s All Love”

MATERIAL ISSUE “What Girls Want”
