I Just Watched...
Re: I Just Watched...
I know, I'm sorry that the COMMUNITY THEATER WITCH CABOT COVE episode isn't available, but I am excited to watch the wonderful, terrible JAMAICAN VOODOO EPISODE WITH THE SCOOBY DOO ENDING.

Bank of Dave (2023, Netflix)
My wife and I were searching for something to watch, and took a chance on this. I can't remember the last time we both smiled during almost the entirety of any movie.
Based on an actual event, the film follows the efforts of Dave Fishwick, who wants to start his own community bank in the British town of Burnley. Naturally the big bad bankers in London want to quash his dream and throw up some roadblocks. But with the help of a young lawyer, the townspeople, and Def Leppard (yes, you heard right), Dave fights back.
This is a delightful film filled with engaging performances, humor, and a very good story. Except for one or two f-words (which the viewer may hardly notice) this is suitable for all ages. No sex, no violence, just good old-fashioned entertainment. Very highly recommended.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her COFFEE TABLE DESIGN BOOK about HER INFAMOUS CLIFFSIDE MALIBU HOME. She has a lake. She has a water mill. She has a PRESIDENTIAL SUITE. She has A MALL IN THE BASEMENT.CinemaInternational wrote: ↑January 12th, 2024, 2:30 pm

This is more along the lines of "I Just Stopped Watching ..."
Outlander, a Netflix series.
An intriguing premise, beginning with a British officer and his nurse-wife in Scotland circa WWII, with the wife mysteriously transported back to 18th century Scotland. Features a great cast, interesting storyline - but goes to the dogs. The Scots are portrayed as mostly horny drunks and morons. Everyone wants a piece of the heroine. Extreme gore and explicit sex drag down the story. One whipping scene went on and on - I got the general idea after the blood started squirting out. Then the heroine undertakes a marriage of convenience to save her from the Brits (one of whom is an ancestor of her 20th-century husband, and who punches her in the stomach). Her new husband is a young virgin, but their marriage night is fantastic. He humps her like he's a porn star, just like it would happen in real life. I read the synopses of a few upcoming episodes and decided there was no point in continuing this. Too bad, because if the over-the-top stuff were removed, this series would be highly entertaining.

Re: I Just Watched...
Have never watched even one episode of 'Outlander' and only became aware of actress Caitriona Balfe existence after watching the film 'Ford v Ferrari' when it was released a few years ago. She played the role of race car driver Ken Miles' (Christian Bale) wife in the film.
And so when you said the following here, Rich...
(...and because of course, I thought the previously unknown to me Miss Balfe was an absolute doll in that car themed flick)
And so when you said the following here, Rich...
...I thought to myself that whoever the young actor was in that role, he probably didn't need much "motivation" in this regard and in order to "flesh out" his character for this role.

Just for the record, she turns in a very good performance in Kenneth Branagh's 2021 film Belfast...Dargo wrote: ↑January 12th, 2024, 3:44 pm Have never watched even one episode of 'Outlander' and only became aware of actress Caitriona Balfe existence after watching the film 'Ford v Ferrari' when it was released a few years ago. So, in the ol' "Comfort v Speed Paradigm", you tend to lean more toward the former than the latter it seems, eh?scsu1975 wrote: ↑January 12th, 2024, 3:48 pmShe has a stunningly beautiful face, but she's a little too thin for my taste.Dargo wrote: ↑January 12th, 2024, 3:44 pm Have never watched even one episode of 'Outlander' and only became aware of actress Caitriona Balfe existence after watching the film 'Ford v Ferrari' when it was released a few years ago. That's cool.
(...although I must admit my leanings tend to be toward...well, maybe we ought to move on here and before this gets a little too explicit, huh)

I have been listening to the audiobook version of the autobiography, read by Barbra Streisand herself.CinemaInternational wrote: ↑January 12th, 2024, 2:30 pm

It had me from the prologue where she referenced her description as an "amiable anteater" in a review of her Broadway stage performance of I CAN GET IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE.
What a treat to listen to!
Besides the wonderful history, her asides are delightful, such as the lousy potatoes at the Jewish summer camp in the Catskills that she attended at age eight.
The first chapter recounts her introduction to her step-father Louis Kind.
Ouch!
Re: I Just Watched...
I'm looking forward to reading it. Does she write about Pins and Needles? I find that to be one of her most enjoyable recordings, particularly her rendition of "Nobody Makes a Pass at Me."HoldenIsHere wrote: ↑January 12th, 2024, 4:45 pmI have been listening to the audiobook version of the autobiography, read by Barbra Streisand herself.CinemaInternational wrote: ↑January 12th, 2024, 2:30 pm

I just now remembered, and I’m being 100% serious here:
my aunt and uncle’s dog’s sister is one of Barbra Streisand’s dogs.
