LEST WE FORGET

With the exhalation of a last, happy breath, this morning, Rock 'N Roll lost one of its tallest giants.

Join me in saying farewell to the inventor of the electric guitar, & of multi-track recording & playback, an admirable songsmith and a pretty cool, early axeman:

A sad day to be sure. For a tribute, I can think of nothing finer than the recordings and players who have made his instrument famous (If it was multitracking, I'd have to include a lot more people):

Eric Clapton

Jeff Beck

Paul Kossoff

Peter Green

Brian Robertson & Scott Gorham (Thin Lizzy)

Robert Fripp

Mike Bloomfield

Joe Perry

Charlie Daniels

Jimmy Page

Ace Frehley

Steve Jones

Slash

And the man himself:

As reported just a short while ago, our good friend Hollis has passed
away. He was a great friend of the Record Party and he'll really be
missed around these parts. This was one of his favorites...

Hollis was also a big fan of CROSBY, STILLS and NASH, here
doing "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" at Woodstock...forty years ago
this very month...

I wanted to post something for my beloved Brother in Arms, in tribute to his passing over to the far, hallowed Shore . .
Not knowing what he would have selected for himself, I instead offer what I have chosen to be piped & sang at my own service, come that Day . .
I recall that Hollis always claimed that he was not of Scots descent, but he was Dear enough to me to feel like Family.
To He who goes Before, my deepest Salute.

Hollis and I once butted heads about which was the greater record:
The BEATLES “White Album” or The Beach Boys “Pet Sounds.” I
opted for the Beach Boys and Hollis never stopped being appalled
by my utter lack of taste. One thing I do know: we were both right.

Mrs. Dewey here (I forgot my password. Sorry...).
I didn't know much about Hollis, except for the time
he emailed asking for help in finding a little relief from
his pain (looking for alternative health care practitioners
in his area).
Hopefully now he's found some. Rest in Peace, Hollis.
Your friends down here are very sad that you're gone.

Did Hollis like the Beatles White Album. Now I shall think of him everytime I play it. It's nice to have something to remember him with.

One of his favorite bands and a song we would discuss: For Brother Hollis.

With the death of LES PAUL, finally someone posted what some consider
to be the first Rock’n’Roll record. Also with, among others, J.J. Johnson,
Illinois Jacquet, and Nat “King” Cole, from July 2, 1944, it’s…

JAZZ AT THE PHILHARMONIC “Blues, Parts 1-3” (ignore the video)

Thanks dear friends, for the music memories. Music was a huge factor in H's life, and he would have been moved to tears to see this outpouring of kindness on his behalf...I know I was.
