kingrat wrote:The movie Bye Bye Braverman, which I saw last night, includes some interesting dialogue about Hitchcock which reflects the pre-auteurist view that his British films were superior to his American films. George Segal and Joseph Wiseman are talking, and one of them mentions Hitchcock. The good Hitchcock, one says. The 39 Steps. The Lady Vanishes, says the other. "Strangers on a Train?" George Segal ventures. Wiseman pauses, then agrees to agree. "Strangers on a Train."

george segal, the actor?

the british hitchcocks have a different tone, don't they? i can't say i have a period that i prefer over all from his films. i love most of them from start until, perhaps a few at the end don't thrill me.

You'd also be interested that when Sorrell Booke is said to have written two articles on John Ford, this is to be taken as a sign that he's not really doing serious intellectual work any more.

LOL! Who said it, George? Chio? I love it. :D :D

Who isn't doing serious intellectual work any more? John Ford or Sorrell Booke?

I didn't say it, MissG. I would have neeevvver concluded the sentence with "any more".

Justta joshin', KR. Couldn't resist given my deep and abiding affection for Boss Hogg and Boss Ford.

And, for MissG, Fuller is still the best f'ing director of Westerns (in the "F" category).

As for "H", there's Hawks and Herzog (and Huston in a pinch).

D'Ohhhh! Brave man ChiO. I expect you to get torn to shreds very soon. And even the Mills Bros. won't be able to help you. Nice knowin' you. Good luck!

I love The Mills Brothers! I became aware of their soft, unpredictable harmony with "Cab Driver" in the late 1960's. Of course, they had been around long before that. But I hadn't!
