Yes, Dargo: On THE HOLLYWOOD SQUARES he'd address his sister in the more casual as "Joanie".
I don't recall this, NS.

Would this have been while he might have been making a passing referrence to her on the program at some time, or was she one of the squares at any time?

And seein' as how we're now talkin' about that show, I think my all-time favorite response made by any of the celebs would be:

Peter Marshall: "Paul, does swimming in the nude help you swim faster?"

Paul Lynde: "No, but it helps me steer!"

You guys do know who Joanne's brother was, don't ya?! He also used a different surname in the biz.

It was (well, I should say "is" here and seein' as how he's still with us at age 98) the original 'Hollywood Squares' host Peter Marshall...

Image

(...yep, that's right...the very same overbite that his sister had)
I'd forgotten they were siblings! Noticed he changed his name too. (LOL!)
His real first name was Ralph, so he changed his full name. It's a good thing his real name wasn't Peter. Can you imagine that birth name? Peter LaCöck? The Freudians would have had a field day with such a phallic name.
That would've been sadistic for his parents to have named him that!

Well, and THEN (and I kid you not here) our high school football coach's name was (drum roll please)...Dick Enright!

And just to PROVE I'm NOT kiddin' ya here, here's his Wiki bio page:

(...yep, ol' Dick lead our Gardena High team to the 1969 Los Angle-less..ahem...I mean the Los Angeles City Championship that year!)

Yeah, as if the movie didn't have enough problems, who's bright idea was it to cast PAT BOONE?????
Mr. Vanilla Excitement. I give Pat a break. The role is that of a rich spoiled mama's boy,
so Pat seems an okay choice. And secondarily, this thing is so dull that Pat is pretty irrelevant
to the whole proceeding. There's certainly nothing to spoil.

To anyone interested, FXM is showing the 2021 remake of Nightmare Alley tonight starting
at 9:55. Of course there will be commercials and maybe cuts.

Heh. I live about 37 miles from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and decades ago they had a mayor named Harry Baals, right after the fourth term of a Mayor Hosey. Definitely a theme in that city. The city became a laughing stock nationally when they reconsidered renaming the big 13,000 seat area "The Harry Baals Memorial Coliseum. " They ultimately didn't go through with that name.

Okay, I've just GOT to share the following with you folks here. Hopefully you'll find it worth your time.

Now, besides this wonderful little classic movie themed website, another website I often can spend hours perusing through while looking at classic cars, motorcycles, boats, trailers and sundry automobilia on online auction, is one called "Bring a Trailer". And while on it today, I noticed a very beautifully restored old little travel trailer being auctioned off in it. (not that I'm in the market for one, mind you...it was just such a cute little thing that it caught my eye)

All auctions on BaT (as its also known) always include a large number of photos, a write-up and a comments section in which people can state their opinion about the vehicle. And, almost all of them also usually include a video uploaded into YouTube about the vehicle as well.

Well anyway, while I was watching the following one here today for the aforementioned trailer...

...it dawned on me that...well, I'll let the comment I then made in that auction explain it all to you:

Absolutely loved the video tour of this beautifully restored little trailer you took us through here, Seller!

Now, has anyone ever told ya that you sound an awful lot like one of the great voice actors and supplier of many a cartoon character back in the day, a gentleman named Daws Butler? One of his most famous cartoon characters he did the voice for back then was Huckleberry Hound. And so I just wanna say here that while I watched and listened to your video, I felt like ol’ Huck himself was givin’ me a personal tour of it, and thus making it even more enjoyable to watch for me. ;-)

GLWTA

That "GLWTA" thing I ended my comment with means "Good luck with the auction".

(...so, my questiton here is: Daws Butler, the guy sounded just like Daws Butler doin' Huckleberry Hound, RIGHT?!!!) LOL

I'm sorry Dargo, but this just wasn't worth my time. And I never heard of Daws Butler. :smiley_huh:

But I heard of Yaws. In grade school, they showed us a Unicef movie about Yaws in the Maghreb. After which the schoolboy cry became "You'll get Yaws!," which fit in nicely with the Bronx accent.

So Swithin, you're tellin' me here that never in your life have ever watched a cartoon in which this guy voiced a character?:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daws_Butler

Daws also worked along side another guy for a while and who was one of the funniest satirist to ever poke fun at popular entertainment, and whose name was Stan Freberg. I'm sure you've heard of him at least, right?!

Nope my old friend, sorry, but I can't believe you don't know who Daws Butler was.

(...saaay, I wonder if Daws were BRITISH and/or had worked on Broadway if you might've known who he was???) LOL ;)

Looking at the list you provided, those weren't my top cartoon shows. Also I usually don't know who is doing the voices, apart from Mel Blanc, Bea Benaderet, June Foray, Mae Questel, and a few others. It's not like Daws voiced Crusader Rabbit, or Rags T. Tiger, Rocket J. Squirrel, or Bullwinkle J. Moose, or Betty Boop, or Popeye (in his heyday), or any of the other characters I liked.

And although I heard of Freberg, I don't know much about him or his work.
