I'll always remember him as the psycho he played in Wait Until Dark. The first movie I saw him in....
Yep. He sure made an indelible impression with one of his first movie roles here, didn't he.
(...and in my case, I tend to first think of his performance as the deaf mute in 'The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter')
Yes, excellent there also, though I didnt think the film was as good as the book.

If you get a chance to see Alan Arkin in Ted Kotcheff's Joshua Then and Now (1985) do so. I thought it was his best role and was glad to see that he thought so too when he mentioned it in his TCM Interview. If they did a tribute montage of his work, his exit in Joshua would be most fitting.
Now, "Everybody to get from street."

I am so sad to hear about Alan Arkin. He was my favorite living actor. He seemed like such an interesting person and I thoroughly enjoyed reading his books about his experiences and ideas about spirituality.

Jane Birkin, model, actress, and singer, passes at the age of 76.
I just learned today, by reading the comments on an unrelated story on metv.com, that Inga Swenson passed away on July 23. Though she didn't make a lot of movies (The Miracle Worker stands out), she is best known for her role on ABC's Benson spinoff of Soap. She was also active in theatre.

I'm so sorry to hear about Inga Swenson, who starred in the third Broadway show I ever saw: 110 in the Shade. She was magnificent as Lizzie, in that musical adaptation of The Rainmaker. Great performance in a great musical.
