Sorry, Swithin, apologies, I thought you were making a joke, or something. To think that of all the fine perfs on film ... but never mind ... thank you, I hope, for at least allowing me to be shocked. If my comment was questioning and/or disparaging, apologies. I liked Elisabeth in the clip, thank you. She reminds me a little of Maxine Sullivan who I saw sing "I've got you under my skin," (I think) on a PBS Gala program in 1978. The voices are different, but they both were grand dames of song back then.Swithin wrote: ↑March 9th, 2024, 10:45 pmLafitte, you're beginning to make me miss the TCM boards, when people could play this game without having their responses questioned! I was sticking to film actresses, although I might have made a different choice if I considered those I've seen on stage. But that's my business.laffite wrote: ↑March 9th, 2024, 10:20 pmWhat, among all the Shakespearean actresses you have no doubt seen, your fave is a cabaret singer? I looked her up and see that she has no listings for theater, and a single perf in the Tempest, her last appearance. Okay, okay, I'm just surprised, that's all. Maybe I am missing some humor? Anyway, Swithin, thanks. I did due diligence with a search before responding, maybe I missed something? Thanks, Swithin.

And now, for your listening and viewing pleasure, here is Ms. Welch in her moment in Derek Jarman's The Tempest:

Thanks laffite. Btw, speaking of Maxine Sullivan, I once worked on a Shakespeare event with Dick Hyman, who talked about his work with Maxine Sullivan. I now have a CD of "Maxine Sullivan sings the songs of Shakespeare as set to music by Dick Hyman."laffite wrote: ↑March 9th, 2024, 11:38 pmSorry, Swithin, apologies, I thought you were making a joke, or something. Dana's last name is "Carvey", AND Steve's last name is "Garvey"! And so NO, they're not brothers! And besides, Steve was a baseball player and not an actor!!!
Oh...wait...never mind.
And so in that case...
James Arness and Peter Graves
