The Polls are open for Round Three. The lines are short and they aren't checking IDs so it's never been easier to practice your democratic right. This Round will conclude Wednesday night so that we can roll right into Round Four on Thursday.

Happy voting and here's to hoping that some of your favorites survive to fight another day!

Gee,

Maybe the definitive love story of all time against what isn't even close to being Hitchcock's best (see "Suspicion," "Foreign Correspondent" e.g.) and we're supposed to choose? (sounds of teeth gnashing and hair being pulled out) How are we going to do it? And it's right at the top of our "Wish list!" Help me Santa, Help me!

As always,

Hollis

p.s. Is that a gray flannel suit that Cary keeps clean and pressed right up until he takes refuge in a South Dakota corn field? An interesting bit of fun/fluff but far from believable...

You know, Hollis, I have a thought about Cary's neat suit. I think in this case his sharply creased suit is indicative of his character's sang-froid, and also of the fact that the character is one who doesn't appreciate any deviation from routine, and likes everything well-ordered and predictable. He has been conditioned by his lifestyle and his profession to look good, no matter what. It never occurs to him to make himself comfortable, even in the dangerous situations in which he finds himself. He is one of many Hitchcock characters who is unwittingly thrust into chaos, but since here it's Cary Grant, he is rarely the worse for wear.

Mel Brooks makes a point to that effect in High Anxiety, by having "The Birds" poop all over his suit, which he promptly has dry cleaned while he waits, rather than buying new clothes.

Just a reminder this is a short round. Tomorrow is the last day to vote on the match-ups in Round Three so please get your votes in.

Any of you new members are eligible to vote, in fact we'd love to hear your opinions. Just pop on down to the Round Three forum and cast your ballots in the 8 match-ups. After Wednesday there will only be 8 films left standing. Several of the races are neck and neck right now.

Judith:

I agree with you about Grant's suit being his personality. I think the fact that it is gray with a white shirt and tie that is nearly identical to the gray of his suit I think fits along with your point. Thornhill is BLAND! It would probably unnerve him to get dirty.

Today is the LAST day to vote in Round Three. There are several match-ups that are very tight and may be decided by your vote.
Don't hesitate, make a stand for the movie of your choice.

If you have not cast your votes yet we have two match-ups that are tied with three hours to go until the polls close. Be a hero, you can decide the fate of those four films. You can choose the two movies that will advance to the next round! Democracy has never been so easy to feel the impact of your vote!

Sorry for the delay in getting these up today (minor family crisis to solve) but they're up! The final 8 films are divided into four challenging match-ups to lead to the Final Four Films standing. Punch your ballots, sway your audience, post your video clips, engage in your verbal repartee...the battle is on!

This round will end on Saturday night (12/22/07), so cast your votes in between all you holiday activities!

Good luck and may all your films go home winners!

Round Four is over, sort of. We hit a slight snag in our race to determine the Best Movie of all time. We have a tie in one match-up.

Three films have successfully advanced to the Final four:

To Kill a Mockingbird

The Adventures of Robin Hood

The Searchers.

That part was easy. In the Final Four To Kill a Mockingbird will face off against The Searchers. The Adventures of Robin Hood will have to wait to see which film it will face because The Wizard of Oz and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance ended the match deadlocked. So to determine which of those two films will survive we are going to throw out all existing votes and have a special two day vote to decide the winner. Under Round Four you will find Wizard of Oz once again matched up against the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. This poll will start today and stay open until 11:59pm (Pacific) on Monday, December 24 (Christmas Eve). The winner at that point will advance to begin the Final Four which will start on Christmas Day and run through Saturday to give everyone a chance to vote around their hectic holiday schedules.

So, please cast a vote for either Oz or Liberty Valance by tomorrow!

Merry Christmas everyone. Our tie-breaker was settled last night without the influence of good ol' St. Nick and Liberty Valance has moved on to the Final Four. Under the Round Five Forum you are now able to vote on the following match-ups:

To Kill a Mockingbird vs. The Searchers

The Adventures of Robin Hood vs. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

It is exciting to see a different group of films making it this far than many of us suspected. This is by no means just the same old "usual suspects" that normally litter such lists. The fact that we have two westerns in the final four says a lot about the interests of our community. Throw in Robin Hood and To Kill a Mockingbird and this is a very interesting mix indeed.

You will have until Saturday night at 11:59pm on December 29th to cast your votes. The following Monday we will begin the championship match-up for all the marbles and a lovely cyber-trophy for the winning film!

FYI Reminder;

Tomorrow is the last day to vote on the two cinematic match-ups that will decide the championship participants.

If you're a fan of To Kill a Mockingbird you're in good shape at the moment. If you love The Searchers you better send out a search party for addtional votes.

Liberty Valance and Robin Hood are also Duking it out and the Duke's film is currently on top. Any members that haven't cast their votes yet, it's time to get off the fence and let your opinion be heard!

Today (Saturday, December 29th) is absolutely, positively the last day to step forth and be heard in our titanic battle to determine the King/Queen of all movies. Neither race is out of hand yet, and I know we've got members out there that have not cast their choices. Don't be shy, add your opinion to the polls. It won't hurt, we almost never point fingers and we keep our ridiculing safely within socially acceptable bounds. And I promise, we don't bite.

Only two of these films will survive to start the championship round on Monday morning.

Happy voting. Thank you everyone that has voted so far and added some very interesting thoughts about the films. See ya' at the polls!
