I like very much King Vidor's "Street Scene" (1931). In fact it was one of the first films I bought on DVD. Sylvia Sidney and Estelle Taylor shine in it.

I missed Street Scene last time it was on, got it recorded and never watched it. I saw it years and years ago I remember. I hope to watch tonight,as King Vidor is a favorite, at least at this time in his career.

On June 27th (Wednesday) ... On TCM

Prime Time ... Rare Opportunity to see Paddy O'Day a 1935 Movie that featured a very young Rita (Hayworth) Cansino in one of her delightful earlier roles that is a treat for everyone to see.

For those looking for a contact high, HEAD (Bob Rafelson 1968) is on Thursday (tomorrow) night at 10:30pm EST. Written by Rafelson and Jack Nicholson, it stars the adorable Monkees, Annette Funicello, and Timothy Carey. Others with credited appearances include Percy Helton, Sonny Liston, Ray Nitschke, Carol Doda, Frank Zappa, Teri Garr, and Victor Mature. Uncredited appearances include: Toni Basil, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson, and Tor Johnson.

Then, from the sublime to the ridiculous....

Saturday night is loaded with Preston Sturges. A fine time for some enterprising soul to start a Preston Sturges thread.

Yikes! HEAD is on at 12:30am EST Friday morning (Thursday night in TCM time), not 10:30pm.

Telling time is just one more thing I don't do very well.

The Journey (1959) - MissGoddess especially loves this film, which is a favorite of all of us on this board who consider Anatole Litvak a much underrated director. Cold War tensions with American and English passengers trying to flee Hungary in the wake of the Soviet invasion of 1956. Romantic tensions between Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner.

Oh yes, yes indeed! I love this movie dearly and highly recommend it to all. I'll be watching, thank you for the reminder, your highness! :D

I adore The Journey. It is just smoldering sensibilities about the Cold War, love, tension, enrequited love, passion, and fear working it's way through the hearts of so many characters. Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner are inspiring in this tale of tension, lust, and survival of the fittest.

The documentary feel created by the location shoot near Vienna just adds to the excitement generated by the plight of those characters. When Brynner, Kerr, or Robards are on the screen, I just can't move!
