BIG <SIGH>, Moira, over the tantalizing thought of his autobiography. Oooooh...if only his descendants,
if they have the manuscript, would consider getting it into shape for publication.

I found these on ebay, sorry for the printing across that first gorgeous portrait from 1931:
Roland, Norma Talmadge and Roscoe Karns in New York Nights
The Love Mart
After Tonight (1933)
Lupe Velez, Roland in Resurrection
Roland by Hurrell

I'm pretty certain that the other actor is Lido Manetti, billed as Arnold Kent in this film. An Italian actor imported by Paramount, who died tragically in 1928 -he was 28 or 29. I've seen his picture on a still from Gary Cooper's "Beau Sabreur" (1928) in which Gary starred opposite Evelyn Brent. Bill Powell was also in the cast. Manetti or Kent also appeared in films of Clara Bow, Pola Negri et al.moirafinnie wrote:

I agree, feaito. I had looked up Arthur Kent, but could not find a photo confirming him as the man in the picture. Thanks for confirming it as Arthur Kent.

Re: Gilbert Roland - A Latin Performer Unbounded
Thanks so much for the info and your input, Fernando and Wendy. I just looked up Lido Manetti/Arnold Kent and discovered that while filming The Four Feathers in 1929 he was hit and killed by a car (driven by an extra, ironically). Boy, "whom the gods would destroy..." comes to mind, but that guy's life sounds like the most outlandish movie script, doesn't it?
I love that first photo of Gilbert Roland, but wonder a little if it really dates from 1931. I cropped the words from the bottom so we can post it fully here. No matter what the year, he had considerable élan.
I think I'm going to have to track down all the Cisco Kids he did to make screen shots of them soon.

Oooooh, thanks so much for giving Gilbertito a "trim" there in that stunning photo, Moira! It's
an incredible photo, timeless, romantic....he could almost serve as a symbol of "male
romantic hero". <SIGH> <SIGH> <SIGH> <SIGH> <SIGH> (apologies for steaming up the monitors!)

Moira thanks for trimming him up! Every time I try to do it myself, it comes out looking trimmed on my screen, but then when I post it, everything is still there. It happens on every photo I have ever tried to crop.

With Photobucket, right? I've noticed that glitch myself, and the only way I can circumvent it is to click
twice on the edited photo---you know how you have to cick on the reduced image to see it full scale? Do
that TWICE---the second time you will see the cropped/edited version---right click and use the URL in
its properties to copy and paste where you wish to post it. Or try to just copy the link on the page, but
I prefer the safer bet.
I'm sorry if that sounds confusing, I only figured it out by trial and error. It's a real "bug" in the Photobucket
editing system.

Oh thank you Goddess! I have even edited a picture on my OWN computer, then transferred it to photobucket, and it STILL comes out uncropped! I can't figure that out at all.

Wow, that is even more annoying and perplexing. Try my "trick" and see if it works for you. I'm curious if
it's just a fluke.
