I really like Karloff's performance here. When he plays the man brought back from the dead, he moves in such a way that it suggests someone who suffered a stroke. Karloff was a master at playing characters who were both frightening yet invoked pathos.
Another fine Karloff performance, but far shorter, is his appearance in Douglas Sirk's "Lured," as a dress designer who has gone insane. In a second, Karloff can turn the viewer from being sorry for him into being afraid of him.
