Respectable love triangle in Shane

sorry this should be in the western thread
Spoiler Alert
One of the things i like about the classic western Shane was respectable love triangle that appeared to be going on.
Jean Arthur's Marion was happily and faithfully married to husband Van Heflin's Joe, despite her attraction to hired hand and gunfighter Alan Ladd's Shane (ten yrs later a tv series had Jill Ireland's Marion a widow and romantically involved with David Caradine's Shane, or at least in the last episode they were)
Shane too was attracted to Marion, but he also highly respected Joe and was almost a father figure to the couple's son Joey, so he wasn't going to jepordise that.
Joe though until the end of the film, said nothing, but was clearly aware Marion and Shane were attracted to one another. however, it didn't let it bother him, because he knew Marion loved him and that he could trust Shane
