ChiO asked: "Dewey -- you know that the latter blew James Dean right off the screen in EAST OF EDEN, don't you?"

He most certainly did---in one scene.

My British list would be similar, plus Richard Burton.

Miss G

Richard Burton IMO is a bit like Laurence Olivier, who comes over as a stage actor, while working on film. if you look on you tube you can find an interview with Parkinson, filmed in the afternoon with BBC staff sitting in the audience chairs. the reason for this was the Beeb bosses didn't want him to go on stage drunk later in the evening (both Oliver Reed on The Des O'Conner show and George Best on Wogan embarrassed themselves drunk on stage)

Burton however, did make an important contribution to the movies, Look Back In Anger was one of the kitchen sink dramas and i liked him in Where Eagles Dare. which reminds me i think Mary Ure was his best leading lady, not Liz Taylor. as far as i believe he turned down the role of Douglas Bader in Reach For The Sky. if that's the case it was a huge blunder which Kenneth More took full advantage off

Burton even in Welsh terms IMO isn't the best actor. i prefer Ray Milland, Tony Hopkins and possibly even after his great performance in Amazing Grace, Ioan Gruffudd

Mel, you have been missed. I'm so glad you're at the walker stage. Just remember, slow and easy will get it done every time.

Hi Stuart,

Well, I can't say that it matters to me whether someone comes off as "stagey" or not, so much as that I like what I see. When I see Burton, I like very much. :P

When he was good and in the right part, he was hard to beat.

Or maybe I'm just partial to Welsh ham.
