In conjunction with the Cinequest Film Festival, the Stanford Theatre Foundation is screening two foreign silent films at the renovated California Theater the next couple weeks. The films are I Was Born, But..(1932) Japan, directed by Ozu, and October(1927) Russian, directed by Eisenstein. I have not seen either of these titles, but am planing on going to the Ozu film as I am curious to see some of this director's work (Tokyo Story is on my desk here waiting to be taken out of it's Netflix wrapping). I'm not sure of the Eisenstein film, although Dennis James is playing the Wurlitzer for that screening and I love his playing. Below are links to the Stanford site, as well as a link to photo's of the California Theater. Any other board members (or lurkers) who live in the area (Moraldo, Dewey) may want to check this out.
