HAPPY TARTAN DAY, ONE & ALL

Post by klondike »

Today is the 11th anniversary of the U.S. national holiday known as Tartan Day, as passed by an Act of Congress in 1998, for the express purpose of designating a specific day annually to recognize and/or celebrate the immense & typically-overlooked contributions & sacrifices of Scottish immigrants, & their descendants, in the founding, strengthening, improvement & defense of life in these United States, and, as U.S. citizens, on behalf of the entire Planet.

My two favorite female entertainers, Agnes M. and Judy G., both had Scottish ancestry. Let's hear it for the scottish immigrants, and for the ones still in the highlands. :)

I believe that all of the following had a few key drops of Scottish blood, though I'm sure that I'm missing some:
Sean Connery, (natch)
David Niven
John Laurie
Deborah Kerr
Alan Napier
Donald Crisp
Finlay Currie
Donald Meek
Ewan McGregor
John Hannah
Billy Connolly
Katharine Hepburn
, (though it didn't help much with Mary, Queen of Scots, did it?)
Brian Cox
Robbie Coltrane
Mary Gordon, (even if she was cast as an Irish Mom regularly)

Who am I forgetting?

Oops, just remembered Brian Aherne too.

We could probably come up with a very long list with some digging, but off the top of my head, I can add James Finlayson and Andy Clyde.
