Ha! I hate to say it, but my dog sleeps that same way.... upside down with her legs spread out for comfort, or possibly so she can attack you more easily when you come near.
Are you sure that kitty is ducking for safety? I thought she was waiting for an unsuspecting victim to pass underneath.
