I always wished Vaughn Monroe had made more westerns. He seemed to be a warm, kind person. That's what seemed to come through his performances. He also looked like he didn't mind playing roles that included kids. A lot of actors show it in their faces that kids are not their favorites.

I also think Buster Crabbe was a good western guy, but I guess nobody would blame him for moving on to outer space.

One actress I liked and really only know from seeing her in one western, PEGGIE CASTLE played "Reva" in TALL MAN RIDING and I liked her quiet style playing a character who knew she was on a downward spiral with her involvement with the slimy John Baragrey. But she ends up helping Randolph Scott.
I also remember her in 99 RIVER STREET , as the faithless wife of John Payne, not a big role but she always impressed.
I was sad to read she died at 45, an alcoholic.

You can see Peggy in the series LAWMAN, where she basically plays "Miss Kitty" to John Russell's "Marshall".
