This is the 1st of May and in France, it's traditionnal to offer some lily of the valley for good luck. So I send you some digital lily. It's got no scent, but it won't wilt. Good Luck to all!!!

Thanks Christine, today Chile celebrates Labour Day and everything is closed because it's a National Holiday.

It's Labour Day here as well.

Ohhh...then it's in the USA where Labour Day is celebrated on another date. Is it Labour Day in all Europe?

I think about all European countries celebrate Labour Day on May 1st (except the UK that doesn't have any Labour Day).

We have a May Day bank holiday on Monday, it's always the first Monday in May traditionally associated with the festivals of spring ie dancing round the maypole, which I have never seen anyone do.

The kids are missing 2 days of school next week, Monday is a Bank Holiday and Thursday is election day and the schools are used for polling.

Labor Day in the U.S. is the first Monday in September. We get that day off as well, as do all government offices and banks. We've always got to be different I guess!

The lily tradition is unrelated to Labour Day. I think the lily is just a tradition related to the arrival of spring and the lily is in flower at the beginning of May.

Yesterday was Beltain for Wiccan folks, the second of four fire sabbats, this one regarded as being the birthday of the Sun god, or Beli Mawr [bayl-lee MARR]; in olden times, Druids would bless the crop fields at midday, young adults would celebrate the afternoon away with footraces & maypole dances & picnics, stockmen ran their cattle between two giant brushfires, called bailfires, on Beltain night, to banish disease, and the day after, women & kids would start constructing the community's wicker man, which would take about 6 weeks to finish, and would be fired at the next wheel sabbat, Litha.
