Gypsy

Just a quick reminder to our younger members that Gypsy is on this Sunday and I fully recommend it for the complete movie. I feel the academy missed out on nominations for this one, as well as winners. Rosalind Russell was nominated for Best Female Lead, and she deserved it in a way, but not as much, to my way of thinking as Natalie Wood deserved it. Natalie's role in this as Gypsy (a famous stripper of the 40's and 50's), was totally different from anything else she had done up to this point. It was over the top and out of the box for her, and her strip numbers alone make her worthy of accolades. She grew up from a 12 year old child to a grown woman. Gypsy Rose Lee somehow overcame her shadowy beginnings in the strip genre and became a welcome guest on many talk shows, until she got her own show for a couple of seasons, which is when I got to learn more about her. it's a color presentation, jumpy songs, funny dialog, and fine acting talents like Natalie, Rosalind, and Karl Malden.
