Just saw him in an episode of "Wanted: Dead or Alive." Last week I watched him in "Ride Lonesome." Too bad so many might only know him from "The Dukes of Hazard."

I know that episode!
It featured Best as a hard-tongued, whip-cracking freight driver, and gave him so much script time he almost overshadowed McQueen!
I've often wondered if that ep might not have been a potential pilot for a new series about adventures based around Best's freight-driving character, kinda the same formula as the "Wells Fargo" series.

That is exactly the episode. He turns out to be rather a nice guy in the end. Best certainly gets enough play, as well as his co-driver, but I wonder how much they could have pulled out of the scenario.

According to the documentary I watched on the disc Best did at least one other episode. The little clip would appear that character was not as nice as the prior one.

This is about the best one and nothing old enough for the show mentioned.

Ah, yes. I always thought him rather James Garner-like.

Thanks

I liked James in RIDE LONESOME and I also remember him in STEEL TOWN, as the rather quiet boarder in Ann Sheridan's home.

LOVE Jimmy Best! Besides his work in such Westerns as WINCHESTER '73, THE CIMARRON KID, THE LEFT-HANDED GUN, SHENANDOAH, among many others, he also wrote a nice blurb for my Western novel "The Last Outlaw". :D

Are SHOCK CORRIDOR or VERBOTEN! Considered Westerns?
