Dick Cavett has a nice piece in today's NYTimes about visiting Stan Laurel back in the early 1960s.
Stan remembers "Babe" Hardy in the piece and just some genuinely heartfelt writing about a comic genius that Cavett truly appreciated.

Thanks for the post regarding the wonderful Stan Laurel, Lynn. It was very touching.
So glad that the fabulous Oliver Hardy was also praised, as he should be.

Joe,
I am so glad you liked you liked the article. I thought Dick Cavett did a marvelous job of writing from the heart about not only a comedic genius but a genuinely nice guy. The fact that Stan was listed in the phone book and you could just call him up! WoW! You probably can't do that today!

Re: Dick Cavett on meeting Stan Laurel
Stan was a sweetheart. Dick Van Dyke tells a similar story about meeting Stan. If memory serves me right they met more often. They got along so well that Van Dyke delivered a eulogy at Stan's funeral.
The fact that Stan and Ollie got along so well comes through in their work. I never got that impression with Abbott and Costello.
