In the first article, which has disappeared from my files, Reynolds discussed how "Frances always got her way," and that she was "Polish, you know."

Back in April Alec Baldwin interviewed DR for his radio program Here's the Thing. She sounds pretty good.

Unfortunately not every old-style, or classic actor or actress is always that nice to be around. My wife was in the Philadelphia airport a few years back and because she has trouble walking she asked to be transferred by one of those four wheeled flat vehicles with the seats on the back. Well it came time for her to be moved and lo and behold Debbie Reynolds was sitting on the back of this vehicle. My wife had to ask her to move over and even though she complied, for the next few minutes, my wife said that Ms. Reynolds said nothing. She had dark glasses on and had tried to conceal her appearance so no one would recognize her. Well, my wife eventually said that she really enjoyed her performance in Mother at which Ms. Reynolds turned to her and asked her to shut up and leave her alone!!!. A few moments later the vehicle pulled up to a gate where the destination was LAX, and Ms. Reynolds promptly got off the vehicle and said nothing to my wife or to the driver of the vehicle. My wife continued on with the driver/vehicle until she got to the rental car area at which time the driver said to my wife that he usually transfers famous people on his vehicle and that Ms. Reynolds was one of the rudest celebrities he had ever encountered.

Ouch. That is not very nice! Thanks for the personal encounter episode, fxreyman. It's certainly interesting to hear a first person account! For shame...

Wow, thanks for sharing this fxreyman ... I just can't understand why Ms. Reynolds acted this way!

Firstly, my empathy for your wife.

Also, although I have never met or seen Debbie Reynolds, I can tell you her son, Todd, is a first class "a--hole" with rude manners and no redeeming features.
I had an incident with him in 1998 at his mother's casino in Las Vegas and after telling it to Ann Miller later, she said he was ' a little snot' and "wasn't liked much around town"...

Larry, this isn't the first negative tale I've read about son Todd. Someone at the Festival a couple of years ago claimed he was responsible for the failure of the hotel/casino as much as her 3rd husband. But this is unsubstantiated, and not supported by what she wrote in her book, Unsinkable.

I was hoping that her museum dedicated to costumes and memorabilia would find a permanenet home, and I never want to see anyones hopes and dreams dashed. According to her autobiography, Debbie's dreams were all tied up in the casino/hotel.

Well thank you Larry. I appreciate your kind words. As far as Ms. Reynolds is concerned, first of all the story was from my wife. She did not enjoy her few moments with Ms. Reynolds on that vehicle and was happy when she departed. However we both enjoy her performances and just because a person can not act nice in a public environment, is no reason to chastise her. Who knows, maybe she had forgotten to take her medication that day?

I have no idea about her son, but when you think about it... it does not surprise me that Todd and Carrie are brother and sister, and look what kind of problems she has had with her life.

My empathy for your wife, too, fxreyman. There is so excuse for rudeness. You don't say what year this incident occurred, but Debbie has had some documented illnesses in the last several years.

This kind of incident always reminds me of what happened to my cousin when he first went to L.A. in the 1980s. He was returning to the Beverly Hills Hotel as he encountered Louis Jourdan while Jourdan was leaving.

My cousin exclaimed, "Oh, Mr. Jourdan, you're my first celebrity!"
Without skipping a beat, Mr. Jourdan says, "I'm so happy for you!" as he continued to walk toward his car. My cousin is still trying to think of a proper retort, but at the time he was in his early 20s and dumbstruck.

We can always think of a snappy comeback in hindsight, but, alas, not always at the moment of a personal slight. And we don't often expect celebrities to appear out of character if we have been trained by the media to believe that they are kind, funny or nice. It's a social shock when they are otherwise.
