And I challenge anyone to find a photo of a young Donald Meek...
It's just above the picture of young Burt Mustin.

OMG! At first, I thought you were kidding. That really is Burt Mustin?

And he still looks his age-to-be.

Is Abner Doubleday in the picture?

It sure is! The picture is from an online article for Widener Magazine. It seems that Burt Mustin was a 1903 alumnus of Pennsylvania Military College. There's a nice page for him (with more pictures!) here: http://digitalwolfgram.widener.edu/cdm/ ... /324/rec/4

He does; and I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

We veer off in strange directions and it's nearly always my fault

I completely agree about not liking someone just because they are handsome, they have to have character, authority, personality etc added to the mix, not just be handsome or be a genius or an innovator which is probably where Buster and Charlie come in to the equation, both a nice looking men but by no stretch of my imagination could I put them in the same category as Tyrone or in my case Cary or Errol.

Wild to read Donald Meek / Burt Mustin to be mentioned in the same breath with Cary, Errol and Tyrone.

Aaaaaah the 0asis. An equal opportunity message board. :)

I see where "Son of Fury" tops some lists as a Power favorite. I liked it but it wasn't quite what I expected. Oh, it's lavish and well stocked with terrific actors. However, I found it a bit slow in some parts. I understand the need for the island scenes but it kind of got in the way of the drama or at least slowed it down.

Two scenes really stood out for me. One is when Elsa Lanchester helps out Power so he can escape on the boat. She couldn't be more sweet. He only wish is to help a gentleman. The other is when Power makes it back to England and visits the lawyer (Dudley Diggs) to help. There is a dance of trust or not along with pondering the possibility of success. It's all Diggs here.

Roddy McDowell grows up to be Power. Gene Tierney is an impossibly beautiful island girl. A bonus here is a sympathetic role for John Carradine. For you ladies, Power does run around without a shirt for the middle part of the picture. BTW, someone point me to a George Sanders role where he wasn't a slime ball. There must be a few but I don't recall.

It's a good drama. The title, I think, promises more action than it delivers but overall I enjoyed it.

It's been some time since I've seen that one so it's good to know. I know he did a bunch of Falcon movies so I'm sure there is a good character but lately everything I've come across you want to slap him about 5 minutes in.

Thanks for the reminder.
