Up and at 'em, earlybirds -- it's time to start the Wenzday morning music machine with some post-modern crumpet dunkers. You won't be misled at Dewey's Record Party...

ALAN PRICE and his title song from the great 1973 movie "O Lucky Man"

1979 New Wavers THE STRANGLERS do Burt Bacharach proud with their punked up "Walk On By"

Rockpiler DAVE EDMUNDS with the Elvis Costello song "Girls Talk"

Always loved THE CLASH (the band that mattered). Here's "Train In Vain"

An all-time favortie, THE ENGLISH BEAT with their great early 80s anthem "Mirror in the Bathroom"

Stay tuned.

In that same hip groove comes a pair of lip-smackin' summertime raves from Dewey's time capsule:

War "Low Rider"

Young Rascals "Groovin"

Go on out and catch some rays!

William Shatner -- Rocketman
I'm terribly upset. I really wanted to post that one and you beat me to it! I can't get enough of Shatner, even though I'm not a Star Trek fan.

Anyway, it's that time of the day where I put on my iPod and dance around the kitchen while making dinner.

The video where I first found out about the Shatner "Rocketman" performance:

Beck (before Scientology involvement made him dull), "Where it's At"

Elvis Costello, "Pump It Up"

Rosemary Clooney, "Mambo Italiano"

Sophie-Ellis Bextor, "Murder on the Dancefloor"

The Cardigans, "Carnival"

The Odds (especially great if you're a Kids in the Hall fan), "Heterosexual Man"

Not sure if you're a boy or a girl...

sugarpuss, I didn't know Beck "converted" to Scientology. Was that after "Guero?" His best since "Odelay." I do like the melancholy "Sea Change." Great "break up" album. It took me awhile to get into "The Information." The DVD with the surreal home videos with his friends helped...

"Think I'm In Love"

Ben and sugarpuss: your ongoing grooviocity astounds me! Thanks for helping to make Dewey's Record Party the most sensational on-line record hop in America! And that goes for everyone else who has chosen to spin a little musical mayhem our way, too!

For now, let's dig down deep into the well of forgotten weirdness. I humbly offer up the following party favors:

Joi Lansing "Web of Love" this one sizzles!

"Pussy-cat A Go Go"

Vince Tayor & the Playboys "Whole Lotta Twistin' Goin' On"

James Darren "Because You're Mine"

Johnny Hallyday (the French Elvis) "Noir c'est Noir" (Black Is Black)

Let's rip it up!

Sly and the Family Stone "Dance To The Music (etc)"

Brenton Wood "Gimme Little Sign"

Hey gang, here in Northern California it's a beautful sunshiny first day of summer. I don't know what it's doing where you are, but these three toe-tappers are bound to chase any and all your blues away...

Gene, Debbie and Donald "Good Morning!" (from SINGIN' IN THE RAIN)

Judy Garland "Get Happy" from an early 60s TV appearance

Gene Kelly & Phil Silvers "Dig!" from SUMMER STOCK

Laura Nyro! I love her. What a voice!

Re: Beck and Scientology. Ben, from what I know, he's always been a Scientologist, but it was after Midnite Vultures, that he got more into it. Honestly, I never really cared for Guero, but I loved MV and Odelay. Sea Change depresses me, but I'll admit I used to play "Lost Cause" all the time after a breakup.

This was my favorite song off "Guero" though:

"Girl", Beck

Two of my favorite numbers from two favoritemusicals:

Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, "The Babbitt and the Bromide" from Ziegfeld Follies

Robert Preston, "Marian the Librarian" from The Music Man

and three of my all-time favorite songs:

Martha and the Vandellas, "Nowhere to Run"

Duncan Sheik, "Barely Breathing"

Squeeze, "Tempted"

Good David Bowie Ben, how about some "FAME?"
