Joseph Calleia
Yes, yes! I completely agree. In fact, I was just thinking today how I would love to see Joseph Calleia featured on TCM's wonderful summer program. You beat me to it!

I'd really like to see more character actors featured, though I am quite happy to see a couple on the roster for this year! I'm quite looking forward to Charles Coburn this Saturday!

How about Hume Cronyn? Think of all the sniveling rats, the wimpy guys who must make brave choices, the tired bosses, the racist school administrators, the crooked lawyers, the lovesick sailors ....he played them all. If anyone deserves a day, Hume Cronyn does.

I just remembered another one today after watching "The Lady Eve." I'd be really interested to learn more about Eric Blore; I always love his characters.

If I were working on a TCM nominating committee for future Summer Under the Stars, I might limit some to a "Cravin' Ravin' Maven's Dozen." Some of the stars getting a whole day of films weren't shown at their best. So maybe they wouldn't get a whole day but maybe pull twelve of their best films.

I wouldn't mind seeing the work of these two actresses on TCM in 2014:

Is that Frances on the left? Sorry, I'm still on the dull side this morning.

I'd like to second your nomination. An Alice Faye film got me out of the doldrums after a heartbreak. So, yayayay on Alice Faye.

Has anyone mentioned Colin Clive as a nominee? I know we all think "It's alive, aliiivvveee!" when he comes to mind, but his non-Frankenstein films are what appeal to me.

Above: An unexpectedly relaxed looking Clive with Valerie Hobson on his lap (probably while working on The Bride of Frankenstein).

He seems so genuinely tortured, and, from what I've read of the poor soul, he was. Yet he was a good actor within his narrow, anguished range. I am particularly fond of his performances in The Right to Live (1935), The Girl From Tenth Avenue (1936), History Is Made at Night (1937) and especially Journey's End (1930). The latter would be an appropriate choice for next year's centennial of WWI. It is a moving film debut for both Clive, David Manners (who was never better) and director James Whale.

Oh that's a great idea! I think he could have been the type of actor that Lionel Barrymore became.

OK, my daughter Alice has weighed in on this subject, without my even having to prompt her. She asked today while watching a Word of Mouth or What a Character that she would like a Guy Kibbee day.

How can I make this happen? I need all the help I can get to seem all-powerful going into her 13th year! Image

An iPhone 5. NOPE.

Going out on dates. NOPE.

Your future 13 year old daughter asks for a Guy Kibbee Day.

What's the matter with kids today. Tsk! Tsk!
