I was lucky enough to see "A Boy and His Dog" in a theater in the early 80s. I agree that it is a pretty witty film. (In some ways, it is what the "Planet of the Apes" sequels should have been.)
I enjoyed it, but I remember that it was controversial at the time because of the ending. The author of the story the movie is based on, Harlan Ellison, was pretty critical of the film, although I like the movie far more than I like Ellison's story.
The movie's poster was good too. A mushroom cloud from an A-Bomb blast with a smiley face on it.
