First Film that comes to mind...
Re: First Film that comes to mind...
You're right on all counts regarding Fred and 'The Apartment.' I recall the latter as being number one for you, may I know what has eclipsed it at the pinnacle?Dargo wrote: ↑March 14th, 2024, 3:53 pmI have a feeling because you know my second favorite film of all time is 'The Apartment', you're thinking this would come first to my mind, right laffite?! Well, actually it didn't and because even though Fred did get third billing in that movie, because Jack Lemmon so brilliantly and completely dominates that film, I've never much thought of it as being a "Fred MacMurray movie" in any manner. And so the film that actually did first come to my mind in this regard was...'Double Indemnity'.
Next: a dive bar
I'm going with Days of Wine and Roses, I am recalling where Jack is sitting at the bar and buys his other person a drink, "...and give her one of those mothers." Or was that The Apartment. And that might not be a dive. Jack gets around, doesn't he?
next : a movie with very little or no music (background, non-diagetic)
"Edith"

Thanks, and glad you agree. And, tops on my all-time favs list would be 'The Best Years of Our Lives'.
As I haven't watched DOWAR for many years and so I could be wrong here, but yes, I wonder if you might actually be thinking of the bar in 'The Apartment' and where on Christmas Eve we have Jack sitting at the bar with the woman (actress Hope Holiday who's wonderful) down in the dumps because she can't be with her jockey husband for Christmas in NYC because he's stuck in jail in Havana. Just another great scene in that movie.laffite wrote: ↑March 14th, 2024, 7:44 pm I'm going with [for "dive bar"] Days of Wine and Roses, I am recalling where Jack is sitting at the bar and buys his other person a drink, "...and give her one of those mothers." 'Rope'
Next: movie that uses the subjective camera technique
