"The film is adapted from a short story in the Night Shift anthology, by Stephen King. That tome was first published in 1978, though the story could first be found in the pages of men's magazine Cavalier in 1973, back when King was still supplementing his writing career with teaching work."

in other words... the '80 & '94 movies are NOT based on King's story

I tend not to like films based on Stephen King stories, apart from Carrie. They tend to be too much about the response of humanity to the creature/monster, rather than about the mystery of the creature itself.
