I was on a Dyan Cannon kick a couple of years ago, seeing all her movies previously missed. I couldn't believe B&C&T&A was in my library, I remember the scandalous buzz about it when it came out. (I was a kid)
Viewing it as an adult was pleasantly surprised. I found it funny & entertaining, excellent performances all the way around.
I thought that Bob, Carol, Ted, and Alice was a great movie. I watched it as an adult. I'd never heard of it when I was younger. It doesn't seem to be a film that is played often, except on TCM. The premise probably wouldn't have appealed to me as a child and having seen it as an adult, I don't imagine that this would hold a child's attention. Anyway, I thought it was such a compelling film, especially in context of the 1960s sexual revolution. While I didn't live during the 60s, so I don't have firsthand knowledge, it seems that this was also the time that people were more philosophical and things like spiritual and emotional retreats were becoming more commonplace. I liked the idea that Bob and Carol loved the idea of swinging and having an open marriage, but when it comes down to doing the deed with their friends, it's maybe not what they wanted and would be awkward. After the film, I imagine that Bob and Carol might be seeking out some marriage counseling or something, because I think they realized that they don't really want each other hooking up with other people. I would also have to imagine that a decent amount of time will pass before Bob and Carol will see Ted and Alice again.
