Hello from the United Kingdom. I've been a keen watcher of classic films, and reading books on the subject, since childhood and so I am very glad to be a member of the Silver Screen Oasis.

(P.S. thank you for processing my membership as I had a bit of trouble joining)

Welcome Lily, what are some of your favorite classic films?

Welcome Lily ... from across the pond.
My curiosity includes what access you have to classic films?

Impressive! I wouldn't have made the connection even if I was also given Mildred Plotka!

Welcome to our site! Too bad you weren't around when TCM had it's message board. Most of us are refugees from there which closed down late last year. Pass the word around to others who might be interested. We need all the new members we can get!

Everyone, thank you for the lovely welcome!

Let me see, Detective Jim McLeod, some of my favourite classic films include The Night of the Hunter, The Red Shoes, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, Mildred Pierce, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (and many other Bette Davis titles), Little Caesar and Kind Hearts and Coronets. I'm also interested in the silent era and comedies of the thirties and enjoy Buster Keaton and Laurel and Hardy.

jimimac71, we're quite lucky in the UK with a free to view channel in the UK called Talking Pictures which mainly shows classic British films and television, but also shows some American material - that way I've seen some great films I had never seen until that point such as Another Man's Poison with Bette Davis. YouTube I'm sure has been useful for everyone in finding new gems such as Decoy (1946).

BagelOnAPlate, great to see another Lombard fan.

Hello also to jamesjazzguitar, Bronxgirl48, dianedebuda, Kay Francis (Kay Francis is one of my favourites too) and Liam.

Hibi, I certainly will. I always meant to join TCM but when I finally got round to it, it was, alas, gone.

Swithin, thank you so much for the song! On the Twentieth Century is one of my favourite shows with some of the cleverest lyrics. I often play the cd.

KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS, delicious, elegant, mordant, brilliant.

I am an Ealing fan.

It was in the news when "TCM Movies" shut down recently.
All I know about England is the TV show "As Time Goes By."
Well, "The Great Muppet Caper" was supposed to be in England.
My ancestors are mostly from Europe and I wish they had stayed there.
The movie "Babe" is wonderful and almost has to be from Ireland.
Hollywood is not that green.
"The Quiet Man" is fantastic as well.
Without the Internet, none of this information would be on the tip of my tongue.
Our pal "Dargo" likes to poke fun at how you insert the letter "u" in words and we don't.
Don't worry. Humour seems to be his middle name, which matches his avatar.
I think it is exciting to have members from other countries.
Welcome Lily. Yeah, I had to edit my previous post. Spelled it Lilly.
